A US Citizen. She is a plant breeder and geneticist and President of CAREnergy, LLC (Carolina Advanced Renewable Energy, LLC) of South Carolina and has developed the innovative eTuber™ sweet potato. She has over 20 years of experience as one the world's leading sweet potato breeders and geneticists in the research and development of insect and disease-resistant sweet potatoes. Along with the eTuber™ sweet potato that is designed to make fuel ethanol, she has also developed several sweet potato varieties and breeding lines with high dry matter suitable for processed products such as sweet potato chips and fries. Dr. Ryan- Bohac has conducted cooperative research with other scientists in federal laboratories, universities, and private concerns in the United States and internationally. Her CX-1, which is the first variety developed as a high-yielding energy tube is now protected under a US Patent issued by the United State Patent Office.She will act as a BEASI Board Member and Senior Consultant and will provide technical expertise in developing a successful integrated agricultural and bio-energy project in Sub-Saharan Africa, and will lead the expansion of eTuber™ sweet potato in Africa as alternative biomass for sustainable bioethanol production.
